Job Description:

New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE) is a community-based, non-profit organization that works to ensure that new immigrants can build social, political and economic power in their communities and beyond. In our Jackson Heights office NICE works primarily with low-wage recent immigrants who are day laborers, domestic workers and restaurant/deli workers. As recent immigrants, many of NICE's community members lack information regarding their rights as immigrants and workers, as well as their right to access basic services, such as health care, education, and financial services. NICE addresses issues faced by its community members through a variety of strategies, such as direct services – including rights-based English literacy classes, social work services, and assistance with non-payment of wages - and though community-building, grassroots organizing and grassroots advocacy.

NICE seeks a full-time Social Work Program Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of NICE’s social work services including: (1) Program coordination, administration and development, (2) Case management, counseling and direct service to clients (3) Developing and coordinating monthly workshops and clinics (4) Coordinating one to two support groups or organizing committees (e.i: Women’s Committee, Men’s Committee or Workers Committee) (5) Maintaining records and files in accordance with the requirements of the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), our primary social work funder.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Meet with individuals for Case Management and Referrals. This includes assessment, developing a relationship, follow-up, evaluation, and completion of a work plan. Keep updated folders with case notes and register individuals as DYCD participants.
  • Meet individuals in a group setting for group help and group therapy.
  • Coordinate and run monthly Educational Workshops for NICE community and larger immigrant community.
  • Coordinate and run Legal Clinics (Immigration Law, Employment Law and Consumer Law) with legal service partner organizations.
  • Work as part of a staff team to incorporate Social Work services into NICE’s membership structure.
  • Complete Quarterly Reports for DYCD
  • Develop relationships with service providers in Queens and throughout NYC, specifically agencies that work with immigrant populations. Network and grow the program and build opportunities for program collaboration between NICE and other organizations.
  • Become a task supervisor for Social Work interns, and possibly a SIFI (Seminar in Field Instruction) supervisor, if candidate is SIFI certified.
  • Supervise volunteers and staff involved in Social Work projects.

Qualifications:
Must have a degree in social work or be working towards a degree in social work or similar field.
Must have a commitment to social justice and to immigrant and workers rights.
Must have experience in working with immigrant families and/or high needs communities.
Must be bilingual, English/Spanish.
Must be organized and able to multitask.
Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours.
Must make a one year commitment to NICE, two years preferable.
Salary: Depends on Experience.
